I never thought I would be someone who spent this much time thinking about household products. 😂
Cleaning products? Laundry detergent? Vitamins? Personal care products?
I bought what I needed, used what I liked, and went on with my day.
But sometimes life has a way of making you slow down and start looking at things a little differently.
I began wondering:
Could I make better choices about some of the everyday products we were already buying?
Not perfect choices.
Not throwing everything in the house away and starting over.
Just better choices, one at a time.
I started paying more attention to ingredients. I became more interested in the products we use around our homes and families.
And, because everything seems to cost more these days, I was also paying much closer attention to what those everyday necessities were costing.
That combination—home, wellness and saving money—sent me down a path I honestly never expected.
One thing I've learned is that trying to change everything at once can become overwhelming—and expensive.
That's not what I wanted.
Instead, I've taken the approach of replacing things as I need them.
When something runs out, I can ask:
Do I want to buy the same thing again, or is there another option I'd rather try?
That's it.
One product. One decision. One small change at a time.
Some things I switch. Some things I don't. And I'm still learning along the way.
I think that's a much more realistic approach than believing we have to completely transform our homes overnight.
This became another big eye-opener for me.
We're already spending money on laundry products, household cleaners, personal care items and other everyday necessities.
Those purchases don't disappear from the budget just because we don't think much about them.
So I started looking at the bigger picture.
What are we buying repeatedly? How much are we actually using? How long does something last? And are we getting good value for the money we're spending?
Sometimes the least expensive item sitting on a store shelf isn't necessarily the least expensive option over time.
I've also learned that more product doesn't always mean better results-something that definitely changed the way I look at cleaning products!
HomeGoods4Hope became a place where I could share what I'm learning with other people who might be asking some of the same questions.
It's not about telling anyone what they should buy.
And it's definitely not about pretending I have all the answers.
I don't.
It's about sharing information, exploring alternatives and helping people discover options they may not have known were available.
If something I learn helps another person make a choice that's better for their home, their budget or their family, that's a pretty good thing.
And for me, there's another very personal reason behind HomeGoods4Hope.
My brother Rick is fighting Stage IV metastatic rectal cancer, and I am his caregiver. All proceeds from HomeGoods4Hope after operating costs go toward helping with his care.
What began as learning about products and looking for ways to save has grown into something with a much bigger purpose. 💙
I've become a big believer that change doesn't always have to be dramatic.
Sometimes it's simply choosing differently the next time something runs out.
Maybe it's learning more about what's actually in a product.
Maybe it's discovering something that works better for your family.
Maybe it's finding a way to stretch the household budget a little further.
Or maybe it's simply becoming more intentional about where your money goes.
Small choices can add up.
And you certainly don't have to make them all at once.
I'm still learning too—and I'll keep sharing what I discover along the way. 💛
Curious about some of the changes I've made or the options I've discovered?
